  • 6 cups frozen hash brown potatoes, thawed
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup (or cream of mushroom for vegetarian)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup crushed cornflakes or breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the hash browns, melted butter, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  • Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  • If using a topping, mix the crushed cornflakes or breadcrumbs with melted butter and sprinkle over the casserole.
