Ingredients

  • 1 cup grated Gouda cheese
  • ½ up mashed potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Prepare the Cheese Filling:

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and stir in the flour. Cook for 1-2 minutes to make a roux.
  • Gradually add milk, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
  • Remove from heat and mix in Gouda cheese, mashed potatoes, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth.

Shape the Croquettes:

  • Once the mixture has cooled, shape it into small cylinders or balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for 15 minutes to firm up.

Coat the Croquettes:

  • Dip each croquette into the beaten egg, then roll in breadcrumbs until fully coated.

Fry the Croquettes:

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the croquettes in batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Drain the croquettes on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce or as is.

Notes

Optional: Sprinkle with chopped parsley or a pinch of smoked paprika for an extra touch of flavor.
